It is tough to make a change in an organization. Implementing a new way of doing things always faces many obstacles. I am working on launching blended learning in my Special Education unit at my Elementary school, and this process goes quite slowly. Most people at my school do not understand the reasons for doing it. Because as Mr. Sinek told in his video, “People don’t buy what you do, people buy it why you do it.”. We need to decide clearly: Why do we need this change? Why do we want to inspire other people for this change? We need to inspire other people about our beliefs to engage them in our ideas. Another way to simplify work on the change, according to Mr. Asaker, is to present your material in a visually appealing way, demonstrate a possible way to control the process (through the data, for example) and the most crucial element is a desire which is part of our identity (Whom we think we are? Is Why we do what we do). Dr. Kotter also mentioned the importance of identity in his video. He said to change something, we need to get into hearts and minds. The emotional process of people is the most powerful tool to achieve a change. He also suggested that one of the first steps of changing process should be creating a sense of urgency to let people know it needs to be done as soon as possible. It is not so easy to identify those core why for change. I am still struggling with it in my blended learning project. But I am sure with some more helpful information from our course it will be more understandable. References: Asacker, T. (2014, June 30).
