It is always hard to implement something new, especially in institutes such as the educational system. Generations by generation got used to the traditional school environment: the teacher stands in front of the class explaining a new material without engaging students in the learning process.
Dr. Harapnuik in his article “People who likes the stuff… likes the stuff” provides steps to convince people to adopt a new digital learning environment:
-you need to provide an emotional message with good reason (Simon Sinek used a good example at his TED video about companies and people who were good at influencing, such as Apple company or Martin Luther King);
-identify your social leaders at your organization. They will help to lead a behavior change in the entire school district;
-start with a proper strategy that focuses on changing just a couple of activities;
-enlist and empower self-differentiated leaders.
Innovative approach in school education should focus on students’ progress of “new levels of learning as soon as they demonstrate mastery of a topic rather than moving forward based on the number of hours spent in a classroom” as Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation said in their mission.
The biggest obstacles to changes in education are rules and the education system by itself. Our goal as students on the Applied digital learning course is to implement our innovation pilot projects and influence others to apply a new modern learning approach.
