Disruptive innovation

Revolution in education is needed and there are no doubts about it. It has been a long time since major changes had been made. There is lack of flexibility in the educational system. Sometimes it does feel like my school is an “old fashioned factory” with outdated teaching standards. Some of my kid’s parent asked me, “Why are kids at this school walking in the hallway with their hands behind their backs?” “It looks like a jail’ he mentioned. I tried to explain to him that it is a school wide rule, which is supposed to maintain discipline. But at some point, I feel like these things will not assist students' creativity or defer behavior.

Disruptive innovation in education, will bring a more personalized approach for students. School districts implement their own curricular demands on students and teachers. Students do not have the option to choose, but it will change with online learning elements. Online learning environments will bring more customizable, flexible, creative, innovative and encourage engagement. As professor Christensen mentioned, “sometimes students want an option to push pause on a teacher.”

Students are quite different: the way they adapt to new materials and come from diverse backgrounds. For instance, in special education is quite common to have students who are in a higher grade, but are performing academically at a much lower grade level. Therefore, this is the reason I find myself teaching fourth graders basic math and reading skills. These skills are first grade TEKS. A newinnovational education system should optimize the educational approach to reach these students academically, via usage of technology. Today’s student population adopts innovative approaches easily, and educators should become more familiar with new educational technological instructional strategies.

We should focus on encouraging students to find a passion. To make them be involved in some spheres they are interestedabout. Education in the near future, will be more personalized and students will take ownership of their own educational process.
